Migrating the Cashew business into a larger Edible Nuts business was a natural adjacency for Olam. The process of expansion into edible nuts was started with Peanuts as it is the largest edible nut crop not only by volume but also in value terms . Olam now has presence in all the important growing origins of Peanuts in the world- China, India, USA, Argentina, Brazil Vietnam and South Africa. We are continually building and integrating our supply value chain, to ensure that we create a position of strength in the peanuts business similar to Cashews. Leveraging on the strong and well-established relationships with customers in the food services, snack, bakery and confectionery sectors, we offer them a larger Edible Nuts portfolio today, which includes Peanuts, Almonds, Macadamias , Pecans and Hazel nuts.
Olam has grown and leveraged its existing origin and market presence to build comprehensive strengths within the Peanuts supply chain. We have direct origination and processing capability in the world's two largest peanuts exporting origins, namely China and India. We are also present in all the other key processing origins including South Africa, Brazil and India. Olam has acquired Universal Blanchers LLC of United States, the largest independent blancher and manufacturer of peanut ingredients in the world. Universal's deep expertise in ingredient processing and strong customer franchise adds significant value to Olam's overall edible nuts portfolio especially peanuts. Our Marketing offices in Singapore, Indonesia, Moscow, Durban, Marseilles and Rotterdam service a host of customers in most of the importing countries and destination markets. We offer the entire range of peanut kernels and ingredients to meet the exacting standards of the snack and ingredient industry.
While a relatively a recent entrant in the Almond and macadamia business, Olam seeks to provide its customers with a comprehensive package of product quality, delivery and other value added services, similar to those that it provides in Cashews and Peanuts. Olam has further plans to grow its edible nuts business into Walnuts, Pecans and Pine Nuts. Since most of these nuts are grown in the United states, the acquisition of UB provides us a growth platform to enter into these nut categories.
We are looking to expand our product portfolio as well as the specific value chain participation in various Edible Nuts by continually investing and upgrading our procurement, processing and distribution infrastructure in key origins and consumption markets.
